Fun in the Sun

We've been at the Dykstra Family Reunion in Hawley, PA for a couple days now and we've had TONS of fun here already. I wish I could show you all pictures, but at this point, they are all still on the camera. Hopefully, I can get them onto dropshots soon.

We arrived right before dinner on Tuesday. We enjoyed dinner with almost the entire gang. Scott and Lori and their crew didn't arrive until later that evening. One thing to be said here is they are NOT stingy with the food. We've all probably already gained about 20 lbs. That evening, we took the kids to the indoor pool to wear them all out and put them to bed.

The next day (Wednesday) we started the day with breakfast. The whole gang has decided that we will eat most of our meals all together, so once again our little eating area was filled to the brim with Dykstras (and extended fam). After breakfast we went to play on a little playground and then took a pontoon boat out for a little pleasure cruise. The driver was really great he let most of the kids take a turn driving the boat even! Most of the crew do double duty and so later our boat driver, Tom, was singing and dancing in the 50th anniversary show! What a talented bunch, I tell ya! After the boat ride came another lovely meal and then swimming in the kiddie pool complete with frog water slide. (The pictures speak louder than any words . . . I'll try to get those up soon!) After swimming the girls took a rest (as well as most of the other kids) and then we met at 5:30 for a full family photo. I was amazed at how quickly the photographer seemed to be able to get all of us looking in his direction! I guess we'll find out how nice the picture turned out once we are able to buy it! :) We took a Jerry & Linda Dykstra family picture too with all of Suzy's sibling and parents. I had my sister-in-law get a shot of our small family too, so that will make a nice picture as well. Then came dinner. Woodloch was celebrating their 50th Anniversary and so dinner that night was a fancy affair complete with a parade of special characters. The favorite of the kids was Elmo! Little Kate Vanden Berg saw Elmo and her face lit up and her little mouth formed a perfect 'O' and she ran straight toward Elmo as fast as her little legs could carry her! I think it was the cutest thing I've ever seen! After dinner we brought the girls back to the room to sleep and then hired a sitter so Matt and I could hang out for a little with the adults. We spent part of the time just chatting in Luke, Jill and Amy's room and then went to the club to watch a comedian. After that was bedtime.
The next day (today/Thursday) we woke up and went straight to breakfast. After breakfast we went to a go-cart area and let the kids ride the "kiddie cars", some of the adults (the Papa included) did some batting practice in the batting cages, and then adults drove the kids around in the go-carts. Then there was some squirting fun on the bumper boats. Aubrie did NOT appreciate being squirted so after a few minutes on the boat with Papa, she insisted on sitting on the sidelines with Mommy. After go-carts the whole gang met again for some time on the lake. We all got in paddle boat, kayaks and canoes for a little lake fun. Then it was more time in the kiddie pool and then lunch. After lunch came another rest time. I think we will hit the kiddie pool again this afternoon and then tonight the adults are going out again for some grown up fun. Unfortunately, this morning I woke up without a voice. I had come with a lovely cold that has now settled into my chest and I am unable to speak much above a whisper! Let's hope this passes soon. It is very frustrating not being able to talk to anyone. Matt says that this is a few brief moments of relief for him not to have to listen to his wife nag! :)
More later dear readers . . .
