Swimming Lessons and Random Thoughts

The older two girls have started taking swimming lessons. We are now in our 2nd session of lessons and the girls are doing very well. When I first signed up for session one I wasn't able to get Nettie into a class. She was on the waitlist and she wasn't even first on the waitlist. So, the first day of class we went to see if there was any chance she might be able to get in. Unfortunately, her class started 1/2 hour after Aubrie's did. After speaking to the woman in charge and realizing there was very little chance Nettie might get into her ability/age appropriate class I was very discouraged. Then she suggested I put Nettie into the same class as Aubrie. I'm sure her motivation for suggesting it was monetary since if one can't go, the other can't go. (There is no way I could put Aubrie in a swim class without putting Nettie one . . . oh, the tears that would come over THAT!) Anyhoo, I pondered for a bit the ugliness of leaving the pool without getting our feet wet with the cost of paying for a class that might not be a good fit for Nettie. And the ugliness won. Both girls were put in the "Water Babies" class. It actually turned out to be a very good thing. There were only three kids in the class and they ended up with three coaches at the end, so the girls basically got private lessons for the group lesson price.

Session two has now started and Nettie is now in an appropriate class for her. She is doing fantastic! She is starting to look like a little fish (or in her words, a mermaid!) She loves her coach. His name is Spenser and you would think the sun rose and set with him after talking with Nettie.

Aubrie is another story. She loves the water, however, she doesn't love listening to her coaches. Aubrie seems to have a one word vocabulary when it comes to swimming lesson suggestions--NO! "Aubrie, can you put your face in the water and blow bubbles?" "NO!" "Aubrie, jump in! I'll catch you!" "NO!" "Aubrie, let's scoop the water with our hands." "NO!" She's a joy, I tell you! She is getting better but she's not the easiest to deal with. :) We have today and four days next week and then we will be taking a little break. We'll pick up another session at the very end of our summer. Let's hope they don't lose all they've learned between now and then!

RANDOM THOUGHTS
Todays randomness comes from Nettie. We were in the car on the way to swimming lessons and out of the blue Nettie says, "When we get a bunny rabbit, I'm going to name him gopher." (We have never talked about getting a rabbit.) So, there you go.

Until next time dear readers . . .
