In Need of a Self-Esteem Boost

Happy Easter to all our family and friends! We pray that Christ's peace and love surround you this Easter as we remember the sacrifice God made to save us from our sins and His conquering of death to bring us new life.

This afternoon's story comes from today's Easter service children's message brought to you by our lovely, almost four-year-old daughter. The children's message (led by Arlene Eppinga for those familiar with our church family) discussed the topic of new life. Arlene talked to the kids about the metamorphosis of the caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly. She did a great job of engaging the children in talking about what happens to the caterpillar as it wraps itself in the cocoon and transforms into its new beautiful form. She asked the kids about the caterpillar's body and made some comment about it not being very beautiful. Of course, Lynnette disagreed and didn't make any qualms about telling her so. Then Arlene talked about the transformation, discussing how God took this not so beautiful creature and made it into something very beautiful. Lynnette, not wanting to be left out of the discussion, blurts out (in true 3-4 year old fashion) "I have a beautiful body!" Needless to say, the congregation burst with laughter and none will soon forget our daughter's modesty on this blessed Easter Sunday. Never fear, we are working with her on her self esteem issues and I promise that soon she will have a more positive view of her body image. :)

After the church service there was a fun Easter egg hunt, if you can call it that, for the kids. Our church isn't very conducive to Easter egg hunting meaning that there aren't a lot of locations that eggs can be hidden. So, this hunt was more of a "collect as many eggs as you can that are laying on the grass in plain view" type hunt. Nevertheless, the kids had a lovely time collecting eggs and you can see more pictures of the event on the picture site, as well as picture of the girls opening their Easter baskets.

I loved reading this post about the Easter service - that Nettie...what a hoot! Thanks for sharing...between this and the pictures, I'm going through kleenex like hotcakes.
